In our last blog post, we mentioned that Night Out was created through a process of trial and error. But we did not blindly pick ingredients and hope for the best. We wanted to find a real solution to the hangover, one of life’s most aggravating problems. So we dove into the research. We read scientific journals, and studies so boring they would make you fall asleep faster than a massage after two martinis and an Ambien.
From this process, we decided on 6 key ingredients that form the basis of the godfather of hangover prevention.
N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC)
Courtesy of WebMD: “N-Acetyl Cysteine is used for preventing alcoholic liver damage.” “But how exactly does it work?” you’re wondering. NAC helps increase glutathione production in your liver, which breaks down alcohol’s hangover-inducing byproduct acetaldehyde into a harmless substance. Less acetaldehyde in the body means better mornings for you.
Prickly Pear Extract
The exact origin of the beautiful prickly pear, known amongst the botany crowd as Opuntia ficus indica, is unknown. Some historians believe it originated in South America, and the seeds were carried to North America by animals when a landbridge formed between the two continents about three million years ago. What is known is that the fruit’s extract inhibits your body’s inflammatory response. This reduces hangover symptoms such as nausea and headache.
Vitamin B Complex
B Vitamins are the Lebron James of vitamins - they do a little bit of everything. These vitamins help protect the immune system and fight cell-damaging free radicals. They even help break down carbohydrates, which is especially important for the nights where late night pizza becomes your new best friend.
Humans have used Milk Thistle to treat liver problems for for thousands of years. Roman author and philosopher Pliny the Elder wrote about its effective power, as did ancient Greek doctor Dioscoriodes. It has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, all good things for your liver.
Potassium is most commonly associated with bananas. But fun fact, it was actually first isolated from potash, the ashes of plants, from which its name derives. And when you drink, you pee, probably more than usual. When you pee, you lose potassium, which is required for proper nerve and muscle function. Having extra of this key electrolyte at the beginning of the night helps keep your body running smoothly.
Magnesium is the ninth most abundant element in the universe, and the eighth most abundant element in the Earth’s crust. It can also be found in a bottle of Night Out. Magnesium supports the enzyme that helps break down alcohol and eliminate it from the body. This makes it a key ingredient in our proprietary formula.
We're ready to help you to make the most out of tonight without worrying about tomorrow.
